Offa robbery: Banks will resume in 2 months – Olofa tells locals in Kwara

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara state has promised locals that the government will provide more armoured personnel carriers to increase security in Offa and strategic locations throughout the state.

The governor advised residents and indigenes of the state to resist any attempt by anyone to use the Offa robbery attack for political purposes, said during the swearing-in of a new Khadi of the state Shariah Court of Appeal, Honourable Mas’ud Adebayo Oniye.

He stated that people are making comments concerning the development to score political points.

Ahmed said: “Those utterances do not reflect our values as Kwarans and should stop out of respect for the dead and the injured.”

Moreover, the traditional ruler of Offa town, Olofa of Offa, Oba Mufutau Gbadamosi, Esuwoye ll has said that banking operations will recommence in Offa town in the next two months. This was because one of the affected banks was already installing new ATM machines to replace those destroyed by the hoodlums.

At the reception of members of the Offa students association, various groups of artisans and elders forum who staged mournful walk to the Oba’s palace on Thursday, April 12, the traditional ruler said that he had received assurance from the management of the commercial banks operating in the community.

Tayo Tijani, the convener of the walk, blamed the alarming rate of casualty in the attacks on people who were using their phones to record the robbery.

following the April 5 bank robbery in Offa, Kwara state, the people of Omu-Aran community had been living in fear and the only commercial bank in the town was yet to re-open for customers.

Bank customers were left with the option of engaging the services of the local money transfer operators in the community for financial transaction.
